South African actress Makgotso M has taken a firm stand against the belief that public figures lose their right to personal boundaries.
Taking to her Instagram stories, she challenged the notion that fame grants strangers licence to comment freely on a celebrity’s private life.
Makgotso expressed frustration over the blurred lines between professional critique and personal intrusion:
“If I am a singer, actor, painter, dancer, or any type of public figure, it does not give people permission to think they have rights to talk about your personal life anyhow,” she wrote. “Have an opinion about what I offer to the public—the craft itself.
“People choose to entertain through their gifts, not to have strangers interfere or feel entitled to their personal lives,” she added, labelling the mindset “nonsense that needs to be challenged.”
This debate follows recent controversies, such as rapper Reason’s impassioned response on Piano Pulse Podcast.
When hosts insinuated his partner Gigi LaMayne was a “downgrade” from ex Lootlove, Reason fired back:
“What gives anyone the right to call someone a downgrade? What justifies such judgments on a public platform?”
