Award-winning South African rapper Reason recently made a surprise appearance on Piano Pulse, a podcast under the Podcast and Chill network, to address comments made about his relationship.
In a previous episode, the podcast team insinuated that Reason’s current partner, Gigi LaMayne, was a “downgrade” compared to his ex, Lootlove.
“What gives anyone the right to call someone a downgrade?” Reason challenged hosts Thakgi, Sfiso, and Munaka. He went on to question the basis of their comments, asking, “What gives you the right to sit on a public platform and make such a judgment?”
Thakgi defended the remark, stating that he believed Lootlove was more of a “powerhouse” than Gigi LaMayne. However, Reason quickly clarified that contrary to public perception, Gigi is indeed a powerhouse.
He revealed that she employs 300 people and contributes significantly to the country’s GDP.
“I am not in a relationship with someone because of what they have. I am with them because I love them,” Reason emphasised. “You sit here with the opinion that I love them.”
He then questioned the intent of the podcast, asking, “What are you teaching these kids here? You’re tearing down people who see themselves in that little girl. Is that your contribution to this culture?”
Munaka and Sfiso later apologised for the harm their commentary caused Reason and Gigi.
