South African music producer and DJ TNS is proving that a little goes a long way as he reached out to help tornado victims in Tongaat, KwaZulu-Natal.
Distributing blankets to the community, TNS shared that he couldn’t just stand back and watch his home town face such devastation.
On Monday, 03 June a tornado swept through the uThongathi area, battering communities and leaving a trail of damage to homes and infrastructure.
The tornado, brought on by instability of the atmosphere around the area, the cut-off low being present over South Africa, the wind share as well as the unstable conditions around KZN, impacted many parts of the province, with the eThekwini Metro the hardest hit.
KZN government confirmed the death toll from the tornado rose to 11, after initially reporting 5 people had died on Tuesday morning, 04 June.
KwaZulu-Natal Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA)said damages from the tornado will cost more than R1.3 billion.
The eThekwini Metro accounts for over R500 million of this where over 7 000 households were affected.
Approximately twenty schools were damaged, in addition to the roads, bridges, community centers, and electrical infrastructure.
