Socialite and businesswoman Tebogo Thobejane has publicly thanked KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi for his bravery in speaking out against alleged corruption within the police service and political establishment.
Thobejane’s heartfelt message expressed her belief that Mkhwanazi’s actions offer hope for victims and a step towards justice.
“Thank you for speaking when so many stayed silent. For carrying a weight most will never understand. At some point, someone will truly stand up for us 😇😇😇I believe that. Thank you for holding hope, For believing that mothers can live for their children, Even when the world makes it so hard,” wrote Thobejane.
Mkhwanazi recently held an explosive press briefing where he made damning allegations, accusing Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and Deputy National Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya of meddling in high-profile investigations and shielding criminal networks.
He revealed that a Political Killings Task Team, which had been investigating politically motivated murders, was allegedly disbanded on Mchunu’s orders in December 2024. Mkhwanazi claimed that 121 investigation dockets, some with recommendations for arrests, were transferred to Pretoria and subsequently overlooked.
The revelations by Mkhwanazi are particularly important for Thobejane, as her ex-boyfriend Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, who was also implicated by Mkhwanazi, is currently facing charges of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and money laundering in connection with a failed hit on her in 2023.
