Married At First Sight Season 1 cast member Litshoanelo “Dee” Seturumane has revealed that her experience on the reality TV show has left her with trust issues and emotional scars.
Dee, who appeared on the debut season of Married At First Sight South Africa, was paired with Khutso Mokoena.
Reflecting on her time during and after the show, she shared that the experience has made finding love after the show far more difficult.
“I think after the show, finding love has been a little bit more difficult. I do not trust people as much. My relationship before the show was with my son’s father – it was easy, to an extent,” she said during a conversation with Lungelo Mdletshe on the Engineer Your Life podcast.
Despite maintaining a composed and unemotional posture during the interview, Dee shared that she was initially impressed with the match the show made for her.
The couple spent their honeymoon in Cape Town, but Dee admits the relationship started to raise red flags soon after.
“When we left Cape Town, we moved into my house. We never discussed it. He used to come over, and suddenly, he just wouldn’t leave. That was the first red flag,” she recalled.
“My child lives with me full-time, and his child would only visit on weekends.”
Love Turned to Confusion and Emotional Strain
When asked whether she had been happy or in love, Dee responded without hesitation:
“I was in love.”
But the love didn’t come without emotional turmoil.
“Things were always going wrong. The highs were really high, and the lows were very low. In my opinion, it shouldn’t be like that. That was red flag number two.”
Dee says the inconsistency in the marriage created an uncomfortable environment for her child.
“A child cannot predict a parent’s mood, and in my case, the mood in my marriage was inconsistent. He would give me a month of silent treatment.”
According to Dee, her then-husband Khutso once disappeared for a full month, without any explanation.
“I didn’t know where he was. He had told me he was using his apartment as an Airbnb. So if you’re not at my apartment, where are you?”
“He only contacted me when he was in a car accident. But I didn’t understand why, because I thought we were ignoring each other.”
Dee later realised that Khutso may have been jealous of her lifestyle and background.
“Coming from a privileged background probably triggered him, because he grew up in poverty.”
She accused Khutso of emotional and financial abuse.
“I kept on working on our marriage until I hated him. By the time I physically left, I had long exited mentally and emotionally. He abused me emotionally and financially.
“Why are you living in my house, using your apartment as an Airbnb, but all you contribute financially is R2,000? I’m a full-time student, I don’t even have an income. Clearly, he thought I’m one of the Oppenheimers.”
She added that she was afraid of him towards the end of their relationship.
Khutso, who is currently a Mr. South Africa 2025 contestant, has not publicly addressed any of Dee’s allegations. He has remained silent about the breakdown of their marriage and the claims of abuse.
However, he recently took to Instagram to celebrate purchasing his second property, sharing a gratitude-filled post with his followers.
