As South Africa continues to mourn the sudden passing of actor Presley Chweneyagae, one of his closest friends and co-stars, Zenzo Ngqobe, has shared a heartfelt tribute to the man he calls a brother.
In a post that reads less like a farewell and more like a love letter between brother, Zenzo opens with honesty:
“When the time is right, when my heart is steady, and my hands stop trembling, I will sit down and write you the tribute you truly deserve. Right now, I am shattered. In disbelief, shaking, teary.”
The two actors first met in Mafikeng, where their love for the arts was born long before they became household names.
“Before the world knew our names, we knew each other’s hearts.”
Their bond only deepened during the filming of Tsotsi. But for Zenzo, the experience was more than a career breakthrough – it was a moment that sealed a brotherhood for life.
“When Tsotsi happened, it wasn’t just a milestone – it was a sacred moment. A brotherhood sealed forever on screen, and off it.”
From those early days in Mafikeng to shared auditions and sleepless nights in Gauteng, Zenzo says Presley was always by his side.
“Pres was not quiet. He was a force – bubbly, bold, and charismatic. Loud in love, generous in spirit, and contagious in laughter.”
To Presley’s family, fans, and peers, Zenzo offered thanks for recognising and celebrating his friend:
“To his mother, wife, kids, to his family at large, to his industry peers, to the fans who embraced him and the media who carried his name to heights we once only dreamed of — thank you. Thank you for giving him his flowers.”
Zenzo also shared that the two had future plans.
“We had plans, he and I. We weren’t done, Tobetsa.”
Your curtain may have closed, but your light… your light will never fade.”
