South African actress Mmarona Motshegoa is mourning the loss of her beloved mother.
The actress took to social media to share the news, posting:
“Goodnight Ma, go well. I will always love you.”
Messages of love and support have poured in, including from fellow actor-turned-preacher Thabiso Mokhethi, who offered a touching note of comfort:
“I am so sorry for the departure of your beloved mother. May God’s unfailing peace and presence guide you in this difficult time. May angels of heaven surround and comfort you and your family as you navigate this loss. I pray that your faith carries you even as you grieve. More strength to you. Sending you my love.”
Mmarona Motshegoa rose to prominence for her role as Tumi, a feisty and ambitious young woman from the township, in the critically acclaimed SABC1 soccer drama Zone 14.
Her on-screen journey began in 2009 with her role as Keke, a stylish lesbian journalist, on the e.tv soapie Rhythm City.
In 2012, she stirred conversation with her bold, recurring guest role on Generations as Paulina (also known as Banshee).
In 2018, Motshegoa joined the cast of Muvhango as Buhle, making her debut appearance on 4 April.
In 2024, Motshegoa reached a new career milestone, winning a SAFTA for Best Supporting Actress in a Telenovela for her standout role in Redemption. She dedicated the win to her father, sharing:
“My proud, proud Dad.”
“My dad and a few close friends are the only ones who understand how personal this win is for me. I experienced a lot of loss and pain over the past few years, but God remained faithful.”
She revealed that the journey to healing had been far from easy:
“I endured painful experiences that kept me on my knees, weeping in prayer. God kept whispering, ‘This battle is not yours, it belongs to the Lord.’ I let go and completely surrendered.”
