Award-winning singer Kelly Khumalo has issued a fiery response to recent claims made by former defence lawyer Advocate Malesela Teffo, who alleged she accidentally shot and killed her then-boyfriend, footballer Senzo Meyiwa, in 2014.
Meyiwa was tragically gunned down at Khumalo’s mother’s home in Vosloorus.
Teffo, who previously represented four of the men accused in the ongoing murder trial before withdrawing in July 2022, made the startling assertion on a podcast this week.
He claimed Meyiwa’s death was not a robbery gone wrong, but rather “a fatal mistake” by Khumalo.
“Kelly Khumalo shot and killed Senzo instantly at about half past eight… I state this further under oath – it was a fatal mistake,” Teffo reportedly stated.
“Enough is enough”
In a video posted on Friday morning, a visibly frustrated Khumalo declared she was “done being diplomatic” about the accusations.
“Enough is enough. It stops here and it stops today,” she asserted. “I’m not going to release press statements or waste money hiring lawyers to speak on my behalf.”
Challenging her accusers directly, Khumalo added:
“If you truly believe I am capable of what you’re accusing me of, then it’s very simple – come and get me. I’m not above the law. But I’ve had enough of people dragging my name through the mud. It stops now.”
