Enhle Mbali is defending herself against accusations that she is an “angry black woman”.
The actress shared a video on her Instagram TV reflecting on her life and the lessons she has learned.
At one point in the documentary-style video, Enhle talks about how women all over the world are under attack. She used her recent court battle as an example.
“You have watched me in a very public spat – one I did not cause, but did fight publicly… I was on the stairs of the Randburg court, fists up, fighting GBV and unfortunately it got me to angry black woman status when all I was doing was fighting for self, fighting for what was right, protecting myself and my children,” she says.
The 33-year-old took her estranged husband, DJ Black Coffee, to court earlier this year after an altercation at their former marital home. Enhle lives in the home with the couple’s two sons.
She applied for a protection order against the internationally-renowned DJ after accusing him of assault. Enhle accused Black Coffee of slapping her wrist during the altercation, which took place while she was hosting a birthday dinner.
The court denied her request for a protection order. Enhle says it is disappointing that people don’t dig further into the truth.
“I’m not an angry black woman, I am however a woman who had to stand for herself. Let’s not forget that this problem came to me while I was home relaxing, celebrating myself with friends, this problem came to me and when I fight this problem, the problem becomes the victim.”
‘I’m not a gold digger’
Enhle also addressed claims that she is a gold digger. According to a Sunday World report, Enhle demanded that her former husband pay over R131,000 in monthly spousal and child support.
She was awarded R15,000 per month for spousal support and R50,000 for child support, according to the report.
“I am not a gold digger. I found a man who had opportunity in his mind and we made a decision to build together and now he is built. I agreed to take parts of my life that I consider so important to me and put them aside to make this work, to make forever work and it didn’t.
“I am a not a victim… I am a woman to helped build her man. I am a woman who created a shell to protect her family…. I have taken the pain and turned it into happiness and joy, I have taken ridicule and turned it into strength and poise,” she says.
The former ‘Isibaya’ star also revealed that she has started dating. But she stressed that she is not ready for a new relationship.
