A daycare worker has been sentenced for assaulting a toddler in her care. The 50-year old woman who runs a daycare in Potchefstroom was caught on camera beating the half-naked child several times.
Noria Ziburawa was arrested on 13 January, after the disturbing video was shared across social media platforms.
The woman continues to beat the child with what looks to be a shoe, ten times on his bare bottom. She counts with each hard hit and the little boy clutches his bottom.
The incident took place in front of the other 32 children in the daycare facility.
She was sentenced for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH) and for being in the country illegally in terms of immigration Act 2002, Act No. 13 of 2002.
Pleading guilty to both charges the daycare worker was sentenced as follows:
Court 1: Assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH) – R3000.00 fine or 18 months imprisonment, suspended for 5 years on condition that she is not convicted of a similar charge during the period of suspension.
Count 2: Illegal Immigrant – R800.00 fine or 6 months imprisonment of which half of the sentence is suspended for 3 years on condition that she is not convicted of a similar charge during the period of suspension.
Due to the sensitive nature of the video and to protect the child and family from further trauma, Kaya 959 will not share the video.
