Parts of northern China are bracing for further Covid-19 lockdown restrictions as a new wave hits.
Reports out of Beijing indicate that new positive cases have raised concerns of a broader outbreak. As a result China has closed several schools and grounded hundreds of flights.
The latest outbreak is linked to a group of tourists travelling to Xi’an, Gansu province and inner Mongolia. Several cases were reported after an elderly couple from the group tested positive.
Since then, the Chinese government have started mass testing, closing most entertainment venues to curb the spread.
Residents who wish to leave the regions that lockdown has been implemented must produce a negative result. Having logged 5 consecutive days of new cases, Chinese authorities are taking a strict approach. Despite other countries, including South Africa easing restrictions as the vaccines rollout, Beijing is maintaining its zero-tolerance approach to the new wave.
Authorities in China canceled hundreds of flights, closed schools and ramped up mass testing today to try and stamp out a new Covid-19 outbreak linked to a group of tourists.
