South African rapper and music producer Cassper Nyovest has spoken out about the body-shaming comments he received over the weekend, admitting that some of them hurt his feelings.
In a candid video shared on his Instagram, the “Doc Shebeleza” hitmaker said the criticism from social media users reacting to his appearance at the Scorpion Kings concert was harsh and got under his skin.
“They hurt my feelings a little bit, but sometimes that’s what you need, right? A little push,” he said.
Following the backlash, Nyovest revealed he has now started training again to lose weight and get into shape.
However, he also took a moment to reflect on the deeper impact of the comments, calling out those who may be projecting their own insecurities onto him.
“You don’t even know what I’m going through. I’m always the underdog, trying to prove them wrong, change the narrative, and show that Mufasa is still the king.”
Industry colleagues, including the Major League DJs, offered words of encouragement and applauded him for his vulnerability and taking action.
