South African actress Vatiswa Ndara has given fans an update on her highly anticipated book, Unfiltered.
Taking to Instagram, Ndara assured readers that the release date will be announced soon.
“Good morning – for the those who’ve already been checking for the book online, it’s not yet available. Apologies. But it will be, on a date soon to be announced. I also thought to share a bit of what’s in the book. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday,” she wrote.
As part of the teaser, Ndara shared an excerpt addressing an article published in the Sowetan following the untimely death of executive producer Shona Ferguson in 2021.
“This book is however, not only about responding to the comments of that article. It’s also to extricate myself from the stories that have made the rounds about me in the media and entertainment circles. Whether people believe what I say or not is immaterial – the most important thing is that I get to share my side of the story openly and honestly. This is what will put my mind to rest,” the excerpt reads.
Ndara’s long-running controversy with the Fergusons dates back to October 2019, when she wrote an open letter to then-Minister of Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa.
Using her experience on iGazi, a drama series produced by Ferguson Films, she accused the industry of unfair pay, poor working conditions, and exploitation.
She revealed that she was paid R110 000 for a five-week shoot and was offered a non-negotiable contract which prevented her from taking on other jobs.
The Fergusons released a statement denying any wrongdoing, insisting that the payment offer came from the broadcaster and that they treated their cast fairly.
The dispute sparked national debate about exploitation, lack of royalties, and the need for better industry regulation.
Since then, Ndara has alleged she’s been sidelined from acting, concluding that she has been essentially blacklisted for speaking out.
