Soccer legend Doc Khumalo joined friends in Midrand to remember the late radio and TV legend Bob Mabena.

South African soccer legend Doctor Khumalo has paid tribute to his late friend and veteran broadcaster Bob Mabena.
Khumalo revealed on social media that a remembrance dinner was held on Saturday, 9 August, in Midrand to celebrate Mabena’s life. Among those in attendance were broadcasting personality Melanie Bala, actress Rami Chuene, and broadcaster Nothemba Madumo.
“Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure,” Khumalo wrote on Instagram.

Mabena, affectionately known as “The Jammer,” passed away on 10 August 2020 at the age of 50 after suffering cardiac arrest. His funeral was held at Pretoria West Crematorium on 15 August 2020.
Born in the township of Phelindaba, Atteridgeville, Mabena began his career at Radio Bop in Bophuthatswana in 1989. He went on to work at Metro FM, Highveld Stereo (now 947), Kaya FM (now Kaya 959), and Power FM.
He also gained fame as a presenter on the popular SABC music show Studio Mix alongside Melanie Bala, and ventured into music, recording the 1995 dance track Get Funky with Khumalo.
In his later years, Mabena took on leadership roles as a station and programme manager, and was widely respected for his commitment to nurturing young talent in the broadcasting industry.
He remains celebrated as one of South Africa’s most influential pioneers of radio and television.
