Capitec has wrapped up its investigation into why a woman stripped naked and trashed one of its branches.
The bank has denied claims by social media users that the woman had been denied transactions. Capitec also denied allegations that the woman had been paying off a loan.
In a statement via its Facebook page, Capitec says the incident occurred at its Strand branch.
A clip of the tirade, which went viral on social media this week, shows the naked woman screaming and ripping up desk phones which she throws on the floor.
She is also seen throwing computers on the ground, all while totally naked. Banking staff and other bank patrons are seen running towards the bank’s exit.
The woman was eventually escorted out of the bank by a guard.
Capitec expresses concern over the incident
“We can confirm that the woman in the video is a client of ours who had money in her account. She did not, however, have any declined transactions and has never been declined for credit by Capitec,” the statement reads.
Capitec says before the woman entered their facility, she had been escorted out of a nearby establishment by security.
“Footage from the centre then shows her undressing before entering our branch,” the bank says.
Capitec declined to comment further on the matter.
“We ask that South Africans respect her dignity during this time. Capitec is deeply concerned about the woman and will not be making any further comment to protect her privacy and health.
“The local police, who have assisted her with similar instances in the past, are dealing with the matter in a dignified manner,” the bank adds.
