What do you do with the gifts you receive in a relationship after you break up?
Is there an expectation that the partners return gifts?
Experience vs. assets vs. small gestures
Everyone loves being spoiled in relationships; it’s how we show affection by lavishing not just time but effort and money into the perfect gift.
Be it an experience like a holiday or a keepsake like engraved jewelry, the memories attached to the gifts can’t be erased. It’s sentimental and priceless.
But sentimental objects lose their worth once the relationship is over.
As was the case after a scorned Nelspruit businessman tore down the mansion he built for his former lover.
The video was viewed by over 175 000 people, with many commenting that they would have done the same thing.
Money is no object
Some are calling the man’s actions excessive. Was there a need to demolish the house? An asset that could have been sold or leased.
The unofficial word on the street is that the land is in his ex-girlfriend’s name but the mansion wasn’t. This is why he decided to tear down the property and leave her with the plot.
Perhaps it was a case of forgetting and never forgiving.
How would you have handled the situation?
Skhumba shared his thoughts on the situation and we can’t help but LOL!
