Shooting the Dream: The Lebo Mathosa Story
KB Motsilanyane who plays Lebo Mathosa had this to say:
“There was a lot of support on set, people that have worked closely with Lebo Mathosa, that spent so much time with her; people who would say this is how she would sit, how to look or behave. Also, this is a biopic, the director also gives their own interpretation, and the actor is also able to make their own interpretation. We all know I don’t even sound like Lebo, vocally if I attempted to make that voice it was going to be weird.”
Dream: The Lebo Mathosa Story goes behind the scenes to tell the story of a girl who had a tough upbringing while only being raised by her foster mother. 24-year-old Bahumi Madisakwane who was cast as a young Lebo Mathosa shared how excited she was to be part of this incredible project.
“The story is really creating conversations, finally people are having conversations about our stories; stories told by black people… The fact that I was chosen to be a part of this is just so humbling…”

KB Motsilanyane also mentioned how the energy on set was one of nostalgia and a celebration of an icon.
“Every day on set there would always be this energy, every time a song would start, and you’d feel like there’s this wave (I don’t even what to call it, one would have to stop because you get so emotional; and really appreciate this icon, this project.”
