Who knows where this tradition of a “final hall pass” before your wedding day actually started? Yeah, neither do we. Probably America, which explains the saying, “what happens in Vegas…”
For the longest time, bachelor parties involved a trip to the strip club and an unlimited supply of alcohol, whilst the ladies’ version was a more demure high tea. Yawn. Both have been overdone to the point of boredom.
The movie “The Hangover” is what many men are said to call “goals” as the right of passage for any groom before the big day. But are men still looking for one last debaucherous night, complete with a semi-naked stripper on a pole? And are women still throwing high teas, with crustless cucumber sandwiches and crockery for gifts?
Not anymore. According to a survey of a thousand soon-to-be-married couples, many men chose not to re-enact scenes from “The Hangover”. In contrast, the more wild the better for many women.
So the tables have turned. For men, the only goal is to have some childish fun with their mates, the activity doesn’t matter but by the end of the night, the groom would have had his eyebrows shaved off. All in the name of fun and to pull off the ultimate stag night prank before the shackles are snapped shut.
On the other hand, bachelorette parties may now involve a male stripper bursting out of a giant cake. The night usually ends with her bridesmaids holding back the bride’s hair while she alternates between sobbing and vomiting.
The survey also notes that one in nine people lied to their partners about what really happened at their respective parties. To add to that, only 25% of the men and 35% of the women think that you can’t bend the rules. Which means that a shocking 75% of the men and 65% of the women polled think that you can.
On top of that, one in four men (17%) and one in five women (9%) engaged in some sort of sexual activity. An alarming 48% of men and 41% of women flirted. These stats may be shocking but remember it was a closed survey with just a thousand people.
We may not have the full picture of what happens at these parties but one thing’s for sure, you may not want to know.
