Gqom star Babes Wodumo has shared some shocking details about her rise to fame.
The ‘Wololo’ hitmaker was recently a guest on ‘Podcast and Chill with MacG’.
Babes did not hold back. She spilled the tea on the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Making millions
The 26-year-old told Mac G that there was once a time when she could charge up to R150,000 per gig.
When you are doing six to eight gigs every weekend, that adds up to a lot of “randelas”.
“I wasn’t playing games. Can you imagine how much I would make with gigs on weekends? Maybe I would have eight gigs. How much would that be?”
We did the maths for Babes and it works out to R1.2-million!
But Babes says she no longer charges that much for gigs. She lowered her rate to R60,000.
Spending millions
So, what did Babes do with all that money? The musician told MacG she wasted it on expensive “weaves, alcohol,” and drinking with her friends.
Babes says she regrets being a spending fool.
“There are so many things I look back at and say I shouldn’t have done this.”
She says she was very young when she became famous.
Her toxic relationship with Mampintsha
Babes and her partner, fellow musician Mampintsha, have often made headlines for all the wrong reasons.
The couple has been plagued by domestic violence allegations and drama seems to follow them wherever they go.
But Babes says Mampintsha, whose real name is Mandla Maphumulo, “has so much love” for her.
“You guys don’t understand that that person is funny, and he has so much love. In as much as he made mistakes, but he has…so much love. You end up ignoring all the other bad things that he did.
“He is a fine man, who is loving, unlike other young boys who just want to sleep with you, and just leave,” she said.
Mampintsha got fans talking when the podcast was released. He phoned Babes multiple times throughout the interview.
“Sorry guys, my boyfriend is always checking up on me,” she said.
So Mampintsha requested babes wodumo to factime him to prove that she’s still at the interview? pic.twitter.com/zmJuVbzLmR

Babes confirmed that their lobola negotiations were done.
Upcoming reality show
Fans could get to see Babes and Mampintsha’s wedding on their new reality show, ‘Uthando Lodumo’.
The show was originally supposed to make its debut on DStv’s streaming platform, Showmax, in February. It was delayed due to COVID-19 restrictions implemented late last year.
