Inspiring female artists who empower women with their powerful hits

By: Natasha Archary     Music has a way of healing. Filling the void, there are some days you need the beat and some when the lyrics are therapeutic. We recently lost one of the most empowering female artists, Aretha Franklin was a force to be reckoned with.   Never intending to be a catalyst for the women’s movements, Aretha’s songs RESPECT and Natural Woman became anthems of affirmations for […]

Alcohol abuse in women is on the rise – learn your safe limit (Part 1)

By: Natasha Archary   With an increase in the consumption of alcohol in women, one can’t help but question why more women are turning to booze today. It can be said that with the pressures on women to succeed in every area of their lives, many lean towards that glass of red as a coping mechanism.   Gone are the days where a woman’s role was solely, “stay-at-home-mom”. Kofi Annan: a complicated legacy of impressive achievements, and some profound failure

By: Danny Bradlow, University of Pretoria Former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan left a mixed legacy. EPA-EFE/Martial Trezzini Kofi Annan (80) was an important historical figure who played a critical role in many key events of the 1990s and 2000s. Emails and websites are but the tip of the digital iceberg and if your company hasn’t quite breached the surface, you’re floating on thin ice.   Without a strong digital brand presence many corporates or small start-ups are struggling to compete in a saturated market space. Make it a #DateNight to remember with SunSquare Montecasino

By: Natasha Archary     I’m a sucker for intimate dinners, scented candles, roses and some moderate public hand-holding. When SunSquare Montecasino offered us the #DateNight package, I was in my giddy-girl element. This was exactly what my love-game needed and it couldn’t have come at a better time.   Beneath the tough-girl, adrenaline-charged, shark-diving exterior, is still a hopeless romantic at heart. You know my take on traditional dating […]

By: Steven Gordon, Human Sciences Research Council Thousands marched to demand an end to xenophobic violence in South Africa recently. EPA/Kim Ludbrook One of the major problems facing South Africa is anti-immigrant violence. The seriousness of this problem was highlighted in a recent report on hate crime in the country. By: Natasha Archary   Ask me what I think about dating in the age of hook-up apps and this culture of “no strings attached” sex and I’ll probably let out an audible, exasperated sigh before launching into an hour long tirade. Side-pieces and snacking, main squeezes and emotional detachment, it's all too much for me to wrap my pretty little head around.   Does no one want the monogamous dating […]
