It’s been 20-years since Alicia Keys hit the world with her debut album, “Songs in a Minor.” To commemorate the anniversary of the album, which saw Alicia rise to fame, the singer will be releasing a special deluxe edition.
The 20th-anniversary edition of Songs in a Minor will feature the original 16 songs plus two unreleased bonus tracks.
Midday Joy with Unathi featured Alicia Keys’ Falling as the ‘You Cannot Unhear This’ track for the day.
Alicia took to Twitter this week to share her humble beginnings in Harlem and her one-bedroom “studio” where she wrote, played, sang and produced the entire album.
Starting from the bottom, Alicia went on to become one of the most formidable female artists.
Meet Alicia.

Her room was so small that Alicia sat on her bed and played the keyboard piano while trying to write lyrics that matched what she felt in her heart.
She didn’t have soundproofing and blankets were used to cover the closet she would sing in throughout the peak of New York summers. She had a vision, regardless of what the doubters said, she was going to get out of that one-bedroom, to the entire world.
Which she did. Songs in a Minor earned Alicia several accolades, including 5 Grammy Awards at the 44th Grammy Awards. Songs in A Minor debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, selling over 236,000 copies in its first week. The album sold over 6.2 million copies in the United States and twelve million copies worldwide.
She sang in a closet covered with blankets through blazing NY summers trying to find her voice and show the non believers she could do it.
No matter what they said
She could do it all
She could write it, play it, sing it and produce it
And she did! pic.twitter.com/TZKvWGQrbH

Alicia, a classically trained pianist, started composing songs at the age of 12 and by 15 she signed with Columbia Records. The rest as they say is history.
