Idols runner-up and gospel singer Sneziey Msomi has set the record straight after social media users questioned if she was a traditional healer.
The accusation comes after the singer posted a picture of herself wearing isiphandla, a traditional wristband. The bracelet is made from animal skin and is worn until it breaks off from the wrist. According to journalismiziko.dut.ac.za, Isiphandla can be seen as the physical link between you and your ancestors.
Social media users questioned how she can practice cultural and ancestral ceremonies while claiming to be a Christian.
Msomi says she owes no one any explanation.
“I do not owe anyone any explanation but ke…” she wrote on Instagram.

She then went on to detail that she is not a traditional healer or initiating to become one.
“Wemakholwa angisona isangoma futhi angithwasi,” she wrote.
She further detailed how even though she is a Christian, she still partakes in cultural activities because she still submits under parents who practice cultural activities. The ‘Kungumusa’ hitmaker said this is done out of respect for her parents.

Msomi is not the first musician to be questioned about her faith.
In April, singer Kelly Khumalo was slammed for singing gospel while dressed ‘inappropriately’. Khumalo shared a video of herself performing her hit single, ‘Esiphambanweni’, at a chesanyama lounge while dressed in a jacket, bodysuit, and pantyhose only. Her attire was criticized by some of her followers.
Khumalo told her fans that God keeps on blessing her regardless of what people say about her.
