Simphiwe Dana is opening up about the time in her life when she felt like an imposter.
The award-winning musician says when you step outside of your comfort zone, you begin to question your abilities.
“Before I was commissioned by a church to rearrange their songs working with an orchestra and a choir, I was scared of putting myself out there as a composer and arranger, let alone producer for other projects beside mine,” she tweeted.

Simphiwe says she could have missed out on a great opportunity because she was too afraid to take on the project.
“Now that I did that I have been wondering how much we have lost out on greatness because either women are scared of being great or society snuffs out their light.”
The ‘Nzima’ hitmaker advocates for equal opportunities in the workplace.
“I’m great. I’m amazing actually. I’ll be working on a lot more projects outside my own moving forward, inshallah. This impostor syndrome will not win. Give women these jobs that you believe only men can do. We will amaze you.”

Battle with anxiety
Simphiwe recently opened up about her battle with anxiety and depression. The singer says she is afraid to take medication for her depression.
“I don’t take meds for the depression as I fear it will affect my creativity. I do take stressam for the anxiety,” she tweeted in April.
Simphiwe has been doing a lot of self-reflection over the past few months.
She opened up about her sexuality a few months ago to create awareness about the LGBTQI+ community.
“It took me a long time to accept that I’m queer. And please, take it from me. I have never lied to you. I’m now getting married to the most amazing person. I need you to be happy for me,” she told her fans.
“Speak out wherever you are. And whomever you are. People like us are dying because we are seen as an abomination. Speak out! Normalize our existence.”
