Kaya 959 News
A family member who brought the plight of her pregnant niece’s nightmare ordeal to Kaya 959’s attention at the Thembisa Hospital’s maternity ward can breathe a sigh of relief.
The 29-year old mom-to-be, whose name cannot be disclosed, was initially booked in for a C-section on 12 May, after being told her due date was 16 May.
However, she was turned away by the hospital because they did not have the capacity to accommodate her delivery.
The mother returned to the hospital on Wednesday, 26 May after being told by nurses that her C-section was the first on their list for the day.
She was once again told to wait because there were other priority cases, despite her having some risk factors which is the reason she needed a C-section.
Two days later, the expectant mother has finally been given an apology from Thembisa Hospital Acting CEO, Dr. Ashely Mthunzi with her procedure confirmed for Saturday morning.
Dr. Mthunzi spoke to Kaya News to reassure the community that while the hospital is at capacity, they are doing everything they can to assist all patients.
He advised residents who choose Thembisa Hospital as their first choice for public healthcare to make use of local clinics which are equipped and can perform C-sections and natural deliveries.
