Warmer days are upon us, and for social butterflies, staying indoors is simply not an option.

If you are one of those people who is always looking for somewhere to go and something to do, Kaya 959 has your back.

This weekend guide might just be what you and your fellow socialites have been looking for.

There is plenty happening around Joburg this weekend, from hip-hop and R&B to nostalgic throwback parties and chilled Sunday afternoons.

So, where are you going?

Everybody Loves Sundays

If you are a lover of house music and a chilled Sunday afternoon, this one is definitely for you.

Everybody Loves Sundays takes place on Sunday, 11 October 2026, at Maracanā in Sandton.

The event promises an afternoon of deep, soulful, and uplifting house music in an open-air setting, giving you the perfect excuse to ease into Sunday and dance your way into the evening.

The event runs from 13h00 until midnight and is strictly for those aged 18 and above.

Back to the City Festival

For the urban music and hip-hop lovers, Back to the City Festival is back on Saturday, 10 October 2026, and this year’s edition is a particularly special one.

The festival returns to Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown to celebrate 20 years of Back to the City.

And the line-up is exactly what hip-hop lovers would expect, with international acts including Slum Village, Ab-Soul and Blu & Exile, alongside some of South Africa’s biggest names, including Cassper Nyovest, Emtee, Blxckie, Stogie T, Reason and Trompies.

But it is not just about the music.

The festival will also feature graffiti, DJ and MC battles, a skate park, basketball, food, fashion and various activations celebrating hip-hop and trendsetters.

Taking place in the heart of Newtown, the festival is also part of Johannesburg’s 140th-anniversary celebrations and marks 50 years since the 1976 youth uprising.

Jozi Gold R&B

Now, leaving out the ladies and gents who live for R&B would be an injustice.

Jozi Gold R&B is also taking place in Newtown on Saturday, 10 October 2026, offering an intimate R&B and neo-soul experience for those who prefer their weekends a little more soulful.

Expect classic slow jams, R&B favourites and a more grown-up lounge atmosphere.

If your idea of a good Saturday involves good music, cocktails and dressing up, this might be your kind of night.

Once Upon A Groove: The 80s & 90s Party

If you are a millennial who loves saying, ‘In my time…’ then this one is for you.

Once Upon A Groove: The 80s & 90s Party is taking place on Saturday, 10 October 2026, at The Beach Rivonia.

The nostalgic party will take guests back to two unforgettable decades of music, with timeless classics, feel-good anthems and sing-along favourites from the 80s and 90s.

The event is strictly for those aged 25 and over, so expect a more grown-up crowd ready to dance, reminisce and relive the music they grew up with.

Whether you want to spend your Saturday surrounded by hip-hop lovers in Newtown, take a nostalgic trip down memory lane in Rivonia or end your weekend with house music in Sandton, then the economic hub of Africa is definitely the place to be.
