We are nearing the end of 2026, and for many people, this is the time of the year when motivation starts to run low, and exhaustion begins to set in – what many refer to as year-end fatigue.
But the year is not over just yet, and there is still plenty to get done. Whether you are a business owner, employee, employer or student, the final stretch of the year can be a good time to slow down, refocus, and find simple ways to make the remaining weeks feel a little lighter.
Introducing a few small habits into your daily routine could help you manage your energy and make it easier to get through the final stretch of the year.
1. Prioritise your health and wellness

One of the most important things to prioritise is your health and wellness.
There are plenty of simple ways to look after your body without making major changes to your routine.
Many of us do not spend enough time moving during the day, so consider walking for 15 minutes instead of driving when possible, taking the stairs, or going for a regular walk in the park.
It does not have to be an intense workout. Sometimes, simply getting your body moving can make a difference.
2. Get into a sleep routine

Going to bed and waking up at roughly the same time each day can help you get the rest you need to recharge for the following day.
Doctors suggest limiting screen time before bed. As tempting as it may be to watch just one more episode of that Netflix show, there will be more time for it tomorrow.
Waking up a little earlier can also give you some extra time in the morning, allowing you to start the day without immediately feeling rushed.
3. If it takes less than five minutes, do it straight away

This is a simple rule that can save you a surprising amount of time.
Whether it is replying to an email, washing the dishes, putting something back where it belongs or completing a small work task, getting it done immediately can prevent little jobs from piling up.
A shorter to-do list can also make the day feel much less overwhelming.
4. Slow down

In the middle of a busy day, take a moment to slow down and simply be present.
We often move through our routines in such a rush that we forget to enjoy the small things around us.
Your morning coffee, for example, does not have to be just fuel to get you through the day. Take a moment to notice its smell and taste. Sit with it. Breathe.
Sometimes, slowing down for a few minutes can help you feel more grounded before you move on to the next thing.
5. Look back at how far you have come

As the year comes to an end, take some time to reflect on what you have achieved since January.
Many people experience imposter syndrome and may struggle to recognise how far they have come because they are constantly focused on what still needs to be done.
We often tell ourselves, “I should have done that already,” without acknowledging everything else we managed to achieve along the way.
Take a moment to recognise the goals you reached, the challenges you overcame and the things you managed to accomplish while working towards everything else on your list.
Give yourself some credit.
None of these changes require a complete lifestyle overhaul or hours of your day. They are small habits that can be incorporated into your existing routine.
As the year winds down, the goal does not have to be doing everything perfectly. Sometimes, it is simply about taking care of yourself, managing your energy and giving yourself enough space to make it to the finish line.
