It is the first of September in South Africa and, for many, it is time for a reset, a change in wardrobe, home décor, lots and lots of outings and a fresh mindset as the Southern Hemisphere enters the spring season.
Every season in the country comes with its own must-have trends, and it seems Gen Z is bringing back some old-school fashion this spring.
Remember your low-rise jeans and tube tops? Yes, they are making a comeback.
Many would say out with the old and in with the new. However, it seems like the younger generation is moving away from oversized clothing and bringing back the waist – think peplum tops, corsets, and satin skirts.

What about home décor?
Neutral colours have taken centre stage in many South African homes, largely because of their simplicity and this generation’s obsession with keeping things minimal.
But this spring, your home could use a little bit of colour.
Listen, we are not saying you need to change your entire home décor, but adding a little bit of life to your space would not hurt, now would it?
Here are some trends that can make your home feel more lively and spring-like without requiring a complete makeover.
Add a little bit of colour to your living room. You can achieve this by changing your flowers regularly – alternating between yellow lilies, pink roses and velvets, for example.

And for your bedroom, you can add a few colourful pillows. Try alternating between light, cheerful colours such as butter yellow and turquoise.

And on your to-do list when it comes to outdoor activities with your family, why not set up a picnic outside your home?
Pack some refreshing snacks, drinks and fruit, grab a blanket and enjoy the warmer weather.
Johannesburg also has plenty of restaurants that offer that summery, spring-like feeling. So, go out with your friends, family or colleagues and enjoy cocktails, mocktails, mimosas and fresh salads.
Most of all, keep hydrated.
Remember, an El Niño event has been predicted to affect the Southern African region, which could bring warmer and drier conditions.
Spring is here, so embrace the warmer days, add a little colour to your life and, most importantly, have fun with the season.
