Johannesburg motorists have been warned of a temporary road closure taking place in the metro on Sunday, 23 August 2026.
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) says Porcupine Avenue in Riverside, Diepsloot, will be closed to vehicular traffic to facilitate the ANC Manifesto Launch event.
“The road will be closed between Natal Sand Street and Pelargonium Drive from 07h00 to 19h00,” said JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla.
Motorists are encouraged to plan their journeys and use the following alternative routes:
- From the south: Use Natal Sand Street, Pioneer Street and Pelargonium Drive as connecting routes.
- From the north: Use Lanner Drive to bypass the closed section.
“While entry remains open for residents and businesses inside the affected perimeter in Riverside, Diepsloot, no vehicle traffic will be permitted through the restricted area,” Fihla added.
To ensure safety and smooth traffic flow throughout the proceedings, motorists are urged to comply fully with temporary traffic controls and instructions from on-site law enforcement officers.
Motorists are also advised to reduce travel speeds along surrounding bypass routes due to expected pedestrian activity, keep emergency lanes clear by refraining from parking on diversion paths, and allow extra travel time.
