- A safety recall has been issued for certain 2026 Ford Transit, Transit Custom, and Tourneo Custom vehicles.
- A faulty automatic transmission component can cause an unexpected and sudden loss of vehicle movement.
- Affected owners are urged to visit an authorised Ford dealership for a free inspection and repair.
South Africa’s National Consumer Commission (NCC) has announced a product safety recall on behalf of Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa.
The recall affects specific 2026 model year Ford Transit, Ford Transit Custom, and Ford Tourneo Custom vehicles sold in South Africa and exported to Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho, and Swaziland between 7 October 2025 and 9 June 2026.
The safety hazard stems from a manufacturing defect in the vehicles’ automatic transmission system. According to the supplier, the affected models are equipped with an 8F57 automatic transmission that may contain an unseated snap ring within the electronic clutch assembly.
This defect directly compromises the vehicle’s driveability. In its official statement, the NCC warned of the potential consequences:
“This may result in a sudden and unexpected loss of vehicle movement. When the vehicle is shifted into drive, it may fail to move forward due to a loss of first gear. Similarly, the vehicle may lose the ability to operate in reverse.”
Ford and the NCC are urging all owners of these specific 2026 models to contact their nearest authorised Ford dealership as soon as possible. Dealerships will inspect the transmission and carry out any necessary remedial repairs entirely free of charge to the consumer.
For further enquiries regarding this recall, consumers can contact the National Consumer Commission at [email protected].
