Nelson Mandela once said: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
However, for many South African learners, getting an education is not easy.
One of the struggles is having to travel long distances to access the schools.
This is why South African actor Clement Maosa decided to celebrate his birthday by donating bicycles to learners in underprivileged areas.
“Therz still learners who walk kilometers to school daily just to get education, so as I celebrate my birthday with @erp.redux we donating 50 bicycles today, “ wrote Clement on Instagram.
He said he will continue to make a difference.
“We shall continue making a difference. I AM GRATEFUL.”
In 2020, Maosa launched the Bakgethwa Foundation, a charity organisation which fights for quality education for every child.

He said his journey as a young boy inspired him to help the less fortunate. He was raised by domestic workers.
The South African actor, who has a Bachelor of Law degree, says he had to fight against all odds to reach his dreams.
Speaking about Bakgethwa Foundation, Maosa said: “The aim is to fight for quality education for every child, so ours is to make information accessible to those abandoned and forgotten by the systems so they continue fighting to better their lives and never lose hope or doubt themselves.
“We continue reaffirming them and instilling back their confidence and dignity. I’m from the villages and I fought against all odds to reach my goals, I always tell the learners that their circumstances and background doesn’t determine their future and through my journey and sharing my story of losing both parents (both domestic workers) as a teenager but never lost hope I get to inspire others.”
