- Rand Water will begin the second and final phase of its planned maintenance on Friday, 17 July, resulting in water supply disruptions in parts of Gauteng.
- The 12-hour maintenance will coincide with Eskom’s critical maintenance programme and will affect areas supplied by the Mapleton and Palmiet systems.
- Residents in Johannesburg and Tshwane are encouraged to prepare for possible water interruptions.
Gauteng residents have been reminded that bulk water supplier Rand Water will undertake the second and final phase of its planned maintenance this week, affecting water supply in certain areas.
The maintenance is scheduled to take place on Friday, 17 July 2026, from 07:00 to 19:00, and will last for 12 hours.
This final phase follows the successful completion of the first phase of planned maintenance, which took place in May and June 2026.
The essential maintenance will coincide with Eskom’s planned critical maintenance activities and is aimed at enhancing operational flexibility across key Rand Water systems to reduce the risk of plant trips and equipment failures.
Rand Water says there will be no pumping at its Mapleton System during the 12-hour maintenance period, while the Palmiet System will operate at 78% capacity.
The maintenance will result in water supply interruptions across parts of the City of Johannesburg and the City of Tshwane that are supplied by the Mapleton and Palmiet systems.
Customers supplied by the following systems are expected to be affected:
- Sandton
- Randjeslaagte
- Midrand
- Linksfield
- South Hills
- Crown Gardens
- Commando (including Brixton, Crosby and Hurst Hill)
- Randburg
- Roodepoort
- Soweto
- Lenasia
- CBD systems, including Yeoville, Berea-Parktown, Alan Manor, Aeroton and Eagles Nest
- Parktown
The following City of Tshwane reservoirs and meters supplied by the Mapleton System will also be affected:
