Ekurhuleni residents have called on law enforcement agencies and immigration officials to conduct door-to-door inspections in townships to identify undocumented foreign nationals.
The calls follow protests in different parts of the City of Ekurhuleni, with Ivory Park and Germiston among the communities where demonstrations against illegal immigration have continued.
On Thursday, 09 July 2026, residents again took to the streets, calling for stronger action against undocumented migrants.
Protesters claimed that politicians were protecting undocumented foreign nationals at the expense of South African citizens.
In Germiston, protesters allegedly went door to door searching for foreign nationals without immigration officials being present. Those that were found were reportedly removed from their homes.
The demonstrations come just days after the nationwide protests on 30 June 2026, which disrupted activity in several parts of the country.
During those protests, March and March organiser Jacinta Zuma-Ngobese said the government would continue spending hundreds of millions of rand on policing demonstrations because the group would not stop protesting against illegal immigration until its demands were met.
Protesters also accused some South African landlords of accommodating undocumented foreign nationals and called on law enforcement authorities to take action against those found to be breaking the law.
