Two people have lost their lives following a serious collision involving a sedan and a bakery truck in Limpopo on Saturday morning, 6 June 2026.
The fatal crash occurred on the P277/1 Road in Sibasa, between the Astron (Caltex) Garage and Elegant Garage, near the City-to-City bus rank, resulting in the temporary closure of the road.
According to Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety spokesperson Mashudu Mabata, the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, although negligent driving has not been ruled out.
“Two occupants of the bakery truck, including the driver, sustained serious injuries. Three passengers travelling in the sedan sustained minor injuries, while two fatalities from the sedan were also reported,” said Mabata.
Emergency services responded to the scene, while traffic officials diverted motorists to alternative routes to ease congestion and allow for investigations to continue.
The department has urged motorists to exercise patience, cooperate with law enforcement officials and adhere to all directives at the scene.
Authorities have also reminded road users to obey traffic laws, avoid reckless and negligent driving, and prioritise road safety at all times.
