Chippa United have officially confirmed the departure of their star goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, after the Nigerian national formally requested to leave the club.
The “Chilli Boys” released a statement on Thursday morning, 5 February 2026, confirming they had granted the 29-year-old his release following “careful consideration.”
Nwabali’s exit marks the end of a highly successful four-year spell in the Eastern Cape, where he transformed from a relatively unknown signing into one of the most sought-after goalkeepers on the continent.
During his tenure, he made 76 appearances and kept 25 clean sheets, becoming a cornerstone of the Chippa United defence and eventually earning the club captaincy.
Nwabali’s stock rose dramatically following his breakout performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, where his penalty-saving heroics against South Africa propelled the Super Eagles to the final.
In their farewell message, Chippa United praised Nwabali for his “service, commitment, and professionalism,” noting that his contribution to the club will always be appreciated.
