- Rand Water will conduct key infrastructure maintenance during December and January, which may leave Gauteng residents with little to no water.
- The maintenance projects will roll out in phases from December 2025 until January 2026 across multiple sites.
- Rand Water says the timing was chosen to minimise disruption and will provide regular updates on progress.
If you are spending your festive holidays in Gauteng, you should expect little to no water as Rand Water will undertake critical maintenance on its key infrastructure.
Rand Water spokesperson Makenosi Maroo says this is part of the utility’s commitment to ensure a sustainable and efficient water supply.
“The purpose of this planned maintenance is to perform critical infrastructure maintenance that will improve plant availability, reliability, and operational efficiency.
The maintenance work will commence at different times, dates, and on different locations across various sites,” said Maroo.
The first part of the maintenance is set to begin on Saturday, 13 December 2025, at the Suikerbosch treatment plant and is expected to be completed on Monday, 15 December 2025.
The second project will take place on Friday, 19 December, until Sunday, 21st of December 2025.
The maintenance work is expected to continue until 2026 with the third project taking place from the 6th of January until 8 January.
“Rand Water wishes to state that these maintenance activities have been strategically planned for the low consumption months of December 2025 and January 2026 to minimise disruption and better manage any potential impact on water supply,” Maroo added.
Regular updates will be issued through Rand Water’s communication channels to keep customers informed of the progress.
