Why soft skills are important in the workplace
Katlego Sekhu

On Wednesday morning, the Siz The World team discussed the importance of soft skills in the workplace and how they can supercharge your career.
Sizwe Dhlomo noted that when he was younger, he didn’t think he was good with people; however, he had to adapt.
“Because of business, I learnt at least how to get the most out of people,” he shared. “Older people would take a liking to me and that helped me in my career a great deal, because a lot of the advice that people gave me helped me.”
Mpho Maboi added, “It is all well and good to be that person that everyone can depend on, but if you do not have soft skills, when it comes time for a promotion, that’s when your leadership skills will come in.
“Because there is no company that is going to promote someone who doesn’t have leadership skills, as well as EQ.”
Mbali Thethane supported Mpho’s sentiment, highlighting that you can be the best at what you do, but it is soft skills that will take you further in your career.
“It shouldn’t matter, but it has an impact on the team. You might be great at your job, but at the end of the day you have to have those soft skills.
“Like Mpho said, should a promotion come your way, they might think: ‘Are you a team player?'”
