Have grandparents today lost the heart of what it means to be a grandparent? Drive 959 with Glen invited listeners to join the discussion.
Kgomotso Meso observed that grandparents today have busy lives.
“They are not the grandparents who sit at home anymore. If your grandparents were CEOs, they are not going to be at home looking after your children 24/7. Their bodies are used to activity, which is why grandparenting today looks different from the past.”
Skhumba added that at his age, his grandmother was already a grandmother to him.
“The joy the latest generation of grandmothers focuses on is simply watching our children take their first steps. We have missed that as a generation because we are too busy,” he said.
