South African singer-songwriter Shekhinah has stunned fans with the surprise release of her new album, ‘Less Trouble’, which arrived just before midnight.
The 30-year-old artist, known for her R&B and pop sound, gave no prior warning beyond a few lead singles released last year, making the announcement on Instagram a complete shock.
The album is a follow-up to her 2021 release, ‘Trouble in Paradise’, and continues the journey of navigating love and loss.
The album’s synopsis, shared on social media, describes it as “A book on more heartbreak, but less heartache,” suggesting a more hopeful and introspective take on emotional turmoil.
The new project includes collaborations with several artists. Amapiano star Young Stunna features on the track “Spoonky,” a love song that samples the legendary Jabu Khanyile’s “Sponky Ponky.” Other appearances on the album include Moily, Mars Baby, and Lordkez.
In addition to the album release, Shekhinah is also hosting her all-women music festival, Rosefest, in Johannesburg on 9 August.
The event, which coincides with National Women’s Day, is a celebration of women in the South African music industry and pays homage to her debut album, ‘Rose Gold’. This year’s theme is “Festival of Fantasy”.
