- The Open Chats Podcast has apologised for making offensive remarks about the coloured community, claiming the comments were meant as a joke.
- Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie has opened a criminal case and plans to refer the matter to the Equality Court and Human Rights Commission.
- He criticised the public and media for staying silent on racism against coloured people.
The Open Chats Podcast has issued a public apology following backlash over offensive remarks made about the coloured community in one of its episodes.
The controversy erupted after the host claimed that coloured families “engage in incest” and “turn every argument into war.”
These statements sparked widespread outrage, particularly among members of the coloured community.
In response, the host defended the comments as misguided humour, saying, “We love coloured people. I am sorry for my offensive remarks; it was just banter.”
The podcast released a formal apology on Instagram, stating that there was no intention to cause harm or disrespect.
However, the apology has done little to quell the growing anger.
Sports Minister and Patriotic Alliance leader Gayton McKenzie has announced that a criminal case has already been opened against the podcast.
“We will be referring the matter to the Equality Court and the Human Rights Commission,” said McKenzie.
“We have several lawyers ready to assist. We also want to know where they’re recording; we need to understand what gives them the comfort to make such remarks.”
McKenzie criticised the public and the media for their silence in the face of the offensive comments.
“People in this country have become too comfortable saying anything about coloured people, knowing nothing will happen to them,” he said. “Had these racial slurs been directed at any other group, it would have made front-page news. But because it’s about the coloured community, the media stays silent.”
He warned that accountability is coming:
“They are going to learn.”
