- Investigating officers in the DJ Sumbody murder case have been placed under full-time protection.
- The state opposed bail for businessman Katiso “KT” Molefe, calling him dangerous and linking the killings to drug trading.
- The case has been postponed to 15 August 2025.
The case against notorious businessman Katiso “KT” Molefe, who’s accused of orchestrating the murder of popular Pretoria DJ, Oupa “DJ Sumbody” Sefoka, and two of his bodyguards, resumed at the Alexandra Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
During proceedings, the court heard that the lives of the investigating officers in the case are in serious danger, prompting authorities to assign them full-time protection.
Molefe, who was arrested alongside three alleged hitmen in Johannesburg last month, is also facing charges for the cold-blooded murder of engineer Armand Swart.
The state opposed Molefe’s bail application, arguing that he is very dangerous and highly influential.
Prosecutor Khetokwakhe Ngubane told the court that Molefe is deeply involved in illicit drug trading and linked the killings of DJ Sumbody and Hector Buthelezi, affectionately known as DJ Vintos to the narcotics underworld.
Ngubane further revealed that cellphone records show communication between Molefe and his alleged hitmen after DJ Sumbody’s killing, discussing payments for the crime.
It also emerged that Molefe was previously convicted in the United Kingdom for carrying cannabis under a false name.
In his affidavit, read by his lawyer Michael Hellens, Molefe denied being a danger to society or a threat to witnesses.
He insisted he had no intention of living as a fugitive and pleaded for bail under “exceptional circumstances,” noting that a High Court had already granted him bail in the separate case of Armand Swart’s murder.
Murder-accused Katiso Molefe explains that he has no intention of leaving South Africa, explains that he owns a R17million house in Sandhurst and R3million one in Winchester.
