What a week – from courtroom drama to political showdowns and emotional farewells.
The Constitutional Court made waves with two major rulings, hitting pause on Nkosana Makate’s billion-rand payout from Vodacom and shutting down the MK Party’s latest legal challenge against President Cyril Ramaphosa over his decision to appoint Firoz Cachalia as Acting Police Minister.
In Roodepoort, the heartbreaking case of little Jayden-Lee took a chilling turn as his mother, Tiffany Meek, was denied bail.

1. Makate’s Big Win? Not Yet. MK Party on Mchunu? Not Today, Says ConCourt
Just when you thought the “Please Call Me” battle was nearing its final ring, the Constitutional Court has hit the reset button. Nearly 20 years since Nkosana Makate first challenged Vodacom over the invention, the billion-rand payout he was set to receive has now been put on pause. The ConCourt ruled that the SCA got it wrong, and now it’s back to the drawing board with a panel of judges. Meanwhile, in a separate legal twist, the ConCourt also dismissed the MK Party and Jacob Zuma’s bid to block President Cyril Ramaphosa’s appointment of Prof Firoz Cachalia as Acting Police Minister and the formation of the Madlanga Commission. 2. “A Mother’s Lie?”: Tiffany Meek Denied Bail in Jayden-Lee Murder Case
Tiffany Meek, accused of murdering her 11-year-old son Jayden-Lee and then pretending he was missing, has been denied bail. Magistrate Anneline Africa didn’t mince her words when handing down judgement, she said, Meek staged a cover-up by reporting her son missing and that she had tried to mislead the court and obstruct justice.
