A 59-year-old man has been arrested in Standerton, Mpumalanga, for possession of more than 50,000 pieces of child sexual abuse images and videos.
He was apprehended on Wednesday during a South African Police Service (SAPS) search and seizure operation, which also uncovered 15 licensed firearms and several digital devices.
Forensic experts processing the scene discovered over 56,000 videos and images depicting child sexual abuse. Authorities say the forensic investigation is ongoing.
The suspect appeared before the Standerton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 31 July 2025. The case has been postponed to 4 August 2025 for a formal bail application.
This case follows a similar arrest in Midrand earlier this year, where a couple was charged with possession and distribution of child pornography material in Gauteng, highlighting growing concerns over child exploitation crimes in South Africa.
