Global superstar Ciara is officially a citizen of Benin

American singer, songwriter, and dancer Ciara Wilson has officially been granted Beninese citizenship after tracing her ancestral roots to the West African nation.
The Grammy-winning artist was honored with her citizenship during a powerful homecoming ceremony held on Saturday, 26 July 2025.
In one of the videos that was posted on social media, Ciara is seen chanting something in a Beninese language.
The event was attended by several government officials, including Minister of Justice and Legislation Babalola Jean-Michel H. Abimbola, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Arts Olushegun Adjadi Bakari, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Ahead of the ceremony, Ciara embarked on a cultural and historical tour across Benin, visiting significant landmarks including the historic city of Ouidah.
She also walked on the Slave Route and stood at the symbolic Gate of No Return, a moment she described as deeply moving and grounding.
