- Julius Malema offered Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi a place in the EFF amid political interference claims.
- The EFF celebrated its 12th anniversary in the Western Cape on Saturday.
- Malema says the EFF is the only party that will allow police to work without fear or obstruction.
The Economic Freedom Fighters’ President Julius Malema has assured KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi that should anything happen to his career in policing, he would always have a place in the EFF.
Malema was speaking at his party’s 12th anniversary on Saturday, at the Khayelitsha Rugby Stadium in the Western Cape.
The custom-built dome, with a capacity of 10,000, was filled to the brim, with many Fighters overflowing outside, demonstrating strong support for the party leader.
Addressing his supporters, Malema called on Mkhwanazi to step forward and join the EFF to fight crime and dismantle criminal syndicates that have captured South Africa.

His sentiments come just weeks after Mkhwanazi revealed that some top cops and politicians interfere with police work, making it difficult for officers to solve certain crime cases.
He claimed that the suspended Police Minister, Senzo Mchunu, ordered the disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team, a move he questioned, as the team was yielding positive results.
Mkhwanazi also linked Mchunu to the notorious Vusi Cat Matlala, who is involved in the Tembisa Hospital corruption saga, one of the biggest scandals in Gauteng’s health system.
The scandal, brought to light by whistleblower Babita Deokaran before her assassination in 2021, involved nearly R3 billion in allegedly fraudulent payments.
Forensic audits flagged multiple tenders connected to Matlala’s network as suspicious.
In May 2025, Matlala was arrested and charged with attempted murder and conspiracy to kill, related to a 2023 plot to assassinate his former partner, actress and entrepreneur Tebogo Thobejane.
Malema said the EFF is the only party where police officers can do their jobs properly without fear.
