The Miss South Africa Organisation has postponed its annual pageant, which was originally scheduled for August 2025, to a later date.
The announcement was made on Instagram on Monday, with the organisation stating that the decision was made to ensure alignment with international and global events.
Traditionally held in August, the pageant opened entries for its 2025 edition back in April. However, concerns have been growing over the delay in announcing the Top 30 contestants – a process that usually gains momentum months before the main event.
The postponement follows the recent resignation of CEO Stephanie Weil, who stepped down weeks ago. Weil, who succeeded her late mother Suzanne Weil in 2019, has been a central figure in shaping the pageant’s modern identity and public presence.
While the organisation cited strategic reasons for the date change, the move has been met with widespread backlash on social media. Many users criticised the Miss SA team for poor communication and a perceived lack of professionalism.
One frustrated Instagram user commented under the announcement post:
“We’ve already come across this statement from several other sources, so there’s nothing new being presented here. Frankly, the lack of communication and professionalism is quite concerning and it speaks volumes about the leadership we can expect moving forward. And please avoid politicising the event. History has shown us that once politics gets involved, the outcome is usually painful downfall. Get competent people on board.”
The organisation has not yet provided a new date for the pageant.
