Bongani Oscar Mgudlwa’s breakthrough was on the production Moruti wa Tsotsi

Popular South African actor Oscar Mgudlwa, best known for his iconic comedic character Madluphuthu, has reportedly passed away at the age of 50.
The news of his passing was confirmed by several tributes from industry peers, including Black Brain Productions founder Mandla N, who posted on social media:
“This one hit hard. Rest in peace, my brother.”
Oscar Mgudlwa rose to fame in the mid-2000s through his memorable performances in local comedy films and television.
He became a household name for his roles in My Lotto Ticket, Madluphuthu 1, and Madluphuthu 2.
Most recently, he appeared in eTV’s The Black Door and was reportedly set to join the cast of Isitha.
Before pursuing acting, Mgudlwa began his career as a musician. He was introduced to the world of acting by legendary music producer Sello “Chicco” Twala, after several of his early music projects failed to gain traction.
His acting breakthrough came with his role in the stage production Moruti wa Tsotsi, which opened doors to a long and impactful career in South African entertainment.
Tributes have been pouring in on social media from fans and colleagues alike, honouring the late actor’s humour, legacy, and contribution to the local arts.
