Gauteng police have made a breakthrough in the tragic case of 11-year-old Jayden-Lee Meek, who was found unresponsive on a staircase at his residential complex in Roodepoort two months ago.
Jayden was reported missing by his mother in May 2025. He was later discovered on a staircase and declared dead at the hospital.
According to police, his body had multiple bruises but was still warm and clean, with no blood visible, raising suspicion of possible assault.
Police have since charged his mother, Tifanny Meek, with murder, defeating the ends of justice, and crimen injuria.
Tifanny Meek briefly appeared before the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 14 July, which was filled with concerned Fleurhof community members, where she and her son had lived.

The case has been postponed to Friday, 18 July.
This case comes just two months after the Western Cape High Court sentenced Kelly Smith, the mother of missing child Joshlin Smith, to life imprisonment for human trafficking, along with 10 years for kidnapping.
Joshlin disappeared from her home in Saldanha Bay in February 2024.
Meanwhile, another disturbing child murder case is also before the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court. The mutilated body of Likhona Fose was found in an open veld in May.
Police are still investigating whether her killing was muthi-related or a hate crime.
Mduduzi Mnisi, the accused in Fose’s murder, maintains that he does not know the victim and had never heard of her until he was arrested.
