The body of 14-year-old Likhona Fose was discovered in a veld in Durban Deep, Roodepoort, on Monday morning.
According to reports, the teenager’s mutilated body was discovered by a passerby, who promptly alerted the police.
This devastating discovery comes shortly after the tragic murder of 30-year-old journalism student Olorato Mongale.
These two incidents have once again, highlighted the plight of Gender Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) in South Africa.
Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane expressed the department’s profound sadness and outrage over the incident.
“We are deeply disheartened by the loss of Likhona, and the brutal manner in which her life was taken is unacceptable,” Chiloane said.
In response to the tragedy, the department has deployed counselors to Ikusasalethu Secondary School, where Fose was doing her grade 8, to provide support to pupils and teachers grappling with the traumatic discovery.
The Gauteng Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding this heinous incident.
