Pastors Sarah Jakes Roberts and Touré Roberts were officially installed as co-senior pastors of The Potter’s House in Dallas on Sunday, July 6, 2025.
The ceremonial handoff saw Bishop T.D. Jakes, the church’s revered founder, formally step aside from his day-to-day pastoral duties, marking a significant generational shift in leadership.
The installation took place during a special service celebrating The Potter’s House’s 29th anniversary, a highly anticipated event that drew a large congregation and online viewership.
Bishop T.D. Jakes, who founded the non-denominational megachurch in 1996 and has stewarded its growth to over 30,000 members, had announced his plans for this succession earlier this year.
This transition has been years in the making, with Sarah Jakes Roberts and Touré Roberts, her husband, relocating to Dallas in 2022 and being installed as assistant pastors in 2023.
Their elevation to co-senior pastors signifies a commitment to evolving ministry leadership while honoring the rich legacy established by Bishop Jakes.
While Bishop Jakes will no longer serve as the primary preaching pastor, he will remain Chairman of the Board and spiritual overseer of The Potter’s House, continuing to provide vision and counsel. He will also redouble his efforts as head of the T.D. Jakes Group, which encompasses various ventures including the T.D. Jakes Foundation.
