The family of David Dabede Mabuza, a towering figure in South African politics and public service, has confirmed that he passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025, after experiencing breathing difficulties.
The Mabuza family released a media statement revealing the circumstances surrounding his sudden demise.
According to the statement, Mabuza, aged 64, sought urgent medical consultation at a hospital in Gauteng yesterday after experiencing significant respiratory distress.
Tragically, he succumbed to his condition while still in the emergency room, as medical professionals made efforts to stabilise him.
Described by his family as a “husband, father, brother, and pillar of strength,” the statement expressed Mabuza’s profound love, unwavering care, and steadfast dedication to the well-being of his immediate family and all those who were close to him.
Beyond his familial role, Mabuza dedicated his extensive career to public service.
He held various influential political and public leadership positions, channeling his efforts into the betterment of socio-economic conditions for the people he was privileged to lead and serve. The family highlighted his critical participation in the struggle for freedom and democracy, viewing it as an essential platform to significantly improve the lives of ordinary citizens.

The Mabuza family announced that his remarkable life will be commemorated and celebrated by his numerous comrades, fellow leaders, colleagues, and friends who collaborated closely with him over his long and illustrious career in politics and public service.
